Dr. Drake grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Northern Alabama.
She began her college studies at Jacksonville State University before transferring to Duke University in North Carolina, where she earned her undergraduate degree in medical technology. She went on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Auburn University in 1987.
Dr. Drake spent the majority of her career as an associate veterinarian in Florida until 1996, when she acquired a small veterinary clinic in Tampa. She named the practice Southpaw Animal Health in honor of her father, a left-handed individual. Today, the clinic is a thriving four-doctor, full-service hospital that serves the greater Tampa Bay area.
After 38 years of veterinary practice, Dr. Drake retired in 2024. Throughout her career, she developed a deep passion for ultrasound, which led her to join MiVU as a mobile ultrasonographer and echocardiographer, allowing her to pursue her dream job in this specialized field.
